Delhi Power Budget 2026: Government Reinforces Subsidies While Expanding Solar Initiatives
New Delhi, March 24, 2026: The Delhi Government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has announced the Power Budget for 2026–27, allocating ₹3,942 crore to the power sector. The budget underscores a dual approach, i.e, continuing electricity subsidies for consumers while strengthening the city’s transition toward solar energy.
Out of the total allocation, ₹3,500 crore has been earmarked for subsidy payments. It ensures that households continue to receive affordable electricity. This sustained financial support plays a critical role in maintaining energy accessibility, especially as power consumption continues to rise across urban households.
The push for solar is further supported by initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Scheme, which is designed to make solar installations more accessible and cost-effective for residential users. Such programs are expected to accelerate the pace of solar adoption across the capital in the coming years.
