The off-grid solar system powers all home appliances during the day using electricity generated by solar panels, while excess energy charges the solar battery. In the evening, when the panels stop generating power, appliances run on the charged battery.
Customers can choose whether the system should switch to grid electricity when the battery is depleted. However, this system does not qualify for government subsidies.
The on-grid solar system does not use a battery and therefore stops working during power cuts. During the day, solar panels generate electricity, which is directly used in the household via the on-grid inverter, reducing electricity bills.
This system also integrates with a net meter for electricity exchange. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the government provides a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 on this system. UTL offers a 10-year onsite warranty for on-grid systems.
The hybrid solar system combines the features of both on-grid and off-grid systems.
It functions as an off-grid system during power cuts and works as an on-grid system when there is excess solar electricity. While highly functional, this system is slightly more expensive due to its advanced capabilities.
The capacity of your solar system (in kW) should match your monthly electricity bill.
Example: If your monthly bill is ₹5000, you should install a 5kW solar system.
The solar system’s capacity cannot exceed 80% of the sanctioned load.
Example: If your sanctioned load is 5kW, you can install a solar plant with a capacity of up to 4kW. For a larger system, you will need to increase the sanctioned load.
The maximum solar system capacity (in kW) is calculated as:
Shadow-Free Area (in Sq Feet) ÷ 100
Example: If you have 1800 Sq Feet of shadow-free roof area, you can install a maximum 18kW solar system.
The ideal solar system capacity for you will be the smallest value among these three.
